ABSTRACT

Quality education can be described as combination of various factors which include economic or perhaps financial position of the friends and family, competent professors, relevant curricula, and equitable resource share. The mix of these will certainly produce beneficiaries who can examine and publish effectively (have functional literacy). Reading is so central to education that quality education cannot be attained without the ability of the student to read in addition to fact with out it, discovered knowledge ends away. This kind of paper consequently , quality education as one that is able to meet the desired goals of education and in whose beneficiaries can easily achieve good quality of lifestyle. The conventional paper also covers the benefits of reading as well as the other ways that can be utilized in order to increase reading among different amounts of education/learners. The role in the library in achieving quality education through reading is also explored. Challenges of browsing are outlined and solutions proffered which has a call on federal government and the non-public sector to assist in providing a suitable environment for browsing.

INTRODUCTION

Education is among the greatest tools that form human patterns and improves the status of your individual. It truly is carried out both in formal and informal configurations. The formal system is defined by the Encarta premium dictionary (2009) while " formal teaching and learning while conducted through schools and other institutions”. The informal strategy is the opposite with the formal where instructions will be received outside the formal class settings. Generally education is defined by Igbuzor (2006) as mindful, direct, circunstancial and roundabout efforts manufactured by a given contemporary society to accomplish specific objectives which can be considered desirable in terms of the individual's own needs as well as the needs with the society in which that education is based. If education can be formal or informal, work must be designed to achieve several objectives which could be specific, societal or national. Although informal system of education remains to be in existence, formal education offers taken precedence over casual education in Nigeria. The formal program which has become the most popular is highly influenced by reading and produces literacy as the conclusion product. A literate person is one who is able to read and write. This is because from the importance mounted on certificates and for the reason that, education is definitely perceived as the passport for the good living (Eno, Uduak, Mbaba, Udosen and Enang, 2011). The mark of quality education is consequently measured by the ability with the educated to reason well, live very well and attain the basic targets of contemporary society. Quality education is for that reason one that can achieve any a good percentage from the goals with the Nigerian world as well as that from the Nigerian educational system. The national educational goals which derive from your nation's viewpoint are given by the National policy on Education (2004) as follows: • To inculcate nationwide consciousness and national unanimity; • To inculcate the type of values and attitudes intended for the your survival of the individual plus the Nigerian culture; • Training of the brain in the comprehension of the world about him; and • Purchase of appropriate skills and the advancement mental, physical and social abilities and competencies as equipment pertaining to the individual to live in and help the development of the society.
